Mom continues to improve, but she had a very rough day today - she is having alot of back pain due to the digestive problems and so she required constant adjustments in her position trying to get comfortable. It made me more thankful for those who have been helping her through the past 10 days, what an emotional and physical job!
The doctor found that she has a virus - CMV that he thinks may have brought on the Guillian Barre Syndrome, she is being treated for that through IV antibiotics. I think her biggest problem at this point is the inability to get comfortable due to the pain, numbness and digestive problems. The GBS seems to be responding well to the medications and she is gaining muscle control and strength in her upper body some.
From playing cards yesterday with us to being aggitated and in pain today was a bit discouraging for her (and us), but she is improving. Tomorrow will be her last day of IV IGG - the treatment for GBS and if they can completely take care of the digestive problem, she will be on her way to rehab in a very short time. Bethy and Cindy are busy trying to make arrangements for Mom to be transported to a rehab center closer to home in or near Elisabethtown so Jim, Deb & Cindy will be closer to her.
Mom loves having so much company, it is hard for her to let us go home at night - but we assure her that the nurses have our phone numbers and they can call if they need us to come to the hospital for any reason. Besides, they now know that the pitbull sisters (Bethy & Cindy) will come for them if they slack off and don't take wonderful care of her.
Oh, I almost forgot - they moved her from the basement to the 6th floor - room 633 now. It sounds better than it is....although she does have a window now.
Good night all, thanks for your comments and prayers - we all appreciate them.
Well, I do hope this new room doesn't have ants like the first did. ;-) Tell Gramma I love her and we have prayed for her recovery.
