Thursday night

What an encouraging day!  We left mom this evening ready to go to sleep, with a smile on her face.  She had a good day, even with the pain in her back and tingling/numbness in her extremities she had a good day.  They moved a trapeze into her room so that she can begin to excercise her upper body. She was feeling pretty good and encouraged with her improvement today since she began lifting herself off of the bed a few inches and adjusting her upper body a bit.  She still needs help moving around in the bed to get comfortable, but a little bit of progress is very encouraging at this time.
The result of the CMV test was negative as an active virus, but they treated her anyway since she had antibodies in her system for it.  Evidently the dr. wanted to make sure that they had her covered since it was apparent that she had the virus recently.
As I mentioned earlier today, she wanted a taco.  We went back to the house for lunch and made some tacos, wrapped one in foil and returned to the hospital where we heated it up a bit for her.  She ate the entire taco and I am sure she would have eaten another one if we would have brought 2.  We decided her appetite was returning and she is ready for some "real" food - that hospital food gets rather bland and dull after awhile.
Cindy has been speaking with the social worker at the hospital about the arrangements for rehab.  If the paperwork is in order, she should be moving to a rehab facility near Elisabethtown tomorrow.  I know Jim will be thrilled to have her closer to home, driving back and forth for him is not easy.   If it doesn't happen tomorrow, it will take a couple of days to get her moved.
She does seem to have a hard time talking on the phone.  I think it is just because the phone she has is heavy and hard for her to hold up for very long.  If you call and she seems anxious to get off the phone, it is not because she doesn't want to talk to you, it is because she is weary and having a hard time holding the phone.
Thank you on behalf of Mom & Jim for your prayers and comments.
Until tomorrow......

  1. Isn't a trapeze a bit premature? I mean, I've been to the circus and those guys have to be pretty strong to fly around like that. Does she at least have a net?
