Just got back from the hospital Beth went with mom to UK to get her settled into the room I had to call the nurses station and Beth and I had to demand that they give her another shot of pain medication before they took her to UK as it will take time to get her checked in there and we did not want her to have to wait for anyone to get her pain meds! Needless to say she got her shot before she left Good Sam after much arguing and demanding that they call the Dr as Beth and I had a very long conversation with her Dr. about her pain meds and giving it every 2 hours instead of every 4 hours as it wares off in 2 with her and he agreed. Then ordered laudunum every 4 hours. Dr. Vanmeter was very concerned about her and he is a very nice man and has always been very diligent about keeping me informed when I called him at home. He told me tonight that he has exhausted all that he knows so he was very happy to refer her to a specialist to get other opinions as he is only a GP but he has been her dr for almost 15 years now and he is very concerned about her and was very apologetic that he could not do more for her.
I am very glad to get her out of Good Sam hospitol the evening shift of nurses are very rude and harsh with Mom and I did not like it and had to speak to them several times about it advising them that they WILL treat her with the repect that she deserves and also us while she was in this hospital. Mom was happy to see all of us and we got her smiling a bit which was nice to see. Beth just called from UK and mom is settled in her room, until the DR sees her (in an hour) they have taken her off of everything. She is not on a heart Monitor and I advised Beth that she needs to make sure that the Dr. Puts her on the Telemetry floor and she needs to be monitored until we know what it is that is wrong with her. Since we now know it is not Lyme Disease. So hopefully he will do that tonight and hook the heart monitor back up to her and monitor her. Well thats it for now. Will post more as we know!

ReplyDeleteI agree: every patient needs an advocate, especially when unable to request what is needed.
ReplyDeleteWe are praying for you all; and glad for your regular updates.

It's too bad her doctor didn't realize that he was not qualified to treat her sooner! She might have have had some relieve from the pain she now suffers.I am glad she is in another hospital. I only hope they can get a diagnosis soon. Keep fighting. She needs strong, forceful advocates to pull her through this life changing ordeal.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the detailed posts on her condition. I check them 3 or 4 times a day.
Love you all.
