Friday night

Well, mom didn't move to rehab today and it looks like it will be early next week before she heads out.  The recommendation is that she goes to an acute rehab facility, there are not that many in the state and only one near their home.  All of the information was sent to HealthSouth (the rehab facility near Elisabethtown) and at first glance, they rejected her saying that her insurance would most likely decline her stay there.  After discussion with the social worker here at the hospital (and possibly Cindy), they have reconsidered and will take another look at admitting mom after reviewing updated information on Monday.  If they refuse to admit her there, Cardinal Hill here in Lexington has already agreed verbally to have her admitted here.

They expect her to stay in acute care for anywhere from 3-4 weeks (of course that depends on her response to rehab), and from there she would go home with outpatient care in a rehab facility closer to home (her choice).  It is expected that she will need assistance at home once she returns, but that will all be determined by her progress in rehab.

Her rehab would most likely be 3-5 hours a day spread out over the day and could start with something as simple as sitting at the side of the bed with a pan of warm water and washcloth trying to wash her face, etc., brushing her teeth - even those simple things could take an hour of rehab time.  So, as you can see 3 - 5 hours of rehab is not like working out in a gym - though it might feel like that to her.

All of us, including mom want her to be in the best possible facility as close to home as she can be so that as many people as possible can visit her.  At this point, that is the goal - so we are hoping for HealthSouth, but may have to deal with Cardinal Hill even though it is farther from home.

That's it for now.
