Another day with improvement and leaving the hospital feeling like mom is encouraged and ready for a good night's sleep. Her day started with Jim (obviously her favorite visitor), Dan & Deb. She had a bit of a restless morning since she did so many things yesterday. After a visit from the head social worker to explain some things about rehab, Jim and Dan headed back to the house to make their trip back to Sonora. The rest of us headed back to the hospital where we found mom looking great and ready to go for a wheel chair ride. Before we could go, another gal who is in charge of her rehab orders came in for a visit with mom to explain a few more things. At this time, it is still unclear if she is headed to E-town (which we are all hoping for), or to Cardinal Hill (further from home). Then the nurse came in to talk with her and asked mom what her secret was for looking so young. She wanted to know if mom used Mary Kay or something. Mom laughed and said no, but thanks. The nurse proceded to tell her that one of the doctors had made a note in her chart that the patient looks significantly younger than her age. She got a kick out of that and it really lifted her spirits, even though we had been telling her how good she looks (it really is unfair that she should look so good!).
We loaded mom in a wheelchair and the nurse told us we didn't have to stay on the 6th floor tonight, we could actually take mom out of the hospital as long as we stayed close. She even let us take mom to the cafeteria for dinner. What a thrill for her, not only to get outside, but to go to the cafeteria and chose what she wanted to eat (a chili dog, french fries and a jello dessert). After an hour and a half, we headed back upstairs and mom was ready to settle in for the night. We got her all set up in bed with her Mr. Pibb and a movie and said goodnight. Mom is excited for all the upcoming visits with family next week, and she is enjoying having everyone close. Jim has been a trooper with all of the Looper crowd here, and is obviously thrilled at the progress Mom is making.
It was a good day.....keep praying!
Jeanne
P.S. I forgot....mom LOVED getting phone calls from the grandkids and great grandkids these past 2 days, keep those calls coming. The best time for her is early to late afternoon.
Hi everyone, Butch and Joanie here..we are so very happy for Helen's progress ...what an answer to prayer!!God is so good to us. ReplyDeleteHey Grandma! We're so glad to read that you're doing better - you've been in our prayers. As Aunt Joan said, God has been good; although I'm sure it's hard to see sometimes. We are happy the God has blessed us all with such a big family that can support each other in such a time of need. I think that if God made you though enough to raise your 7 kids, that he made you tough enough to get through this.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you will soon get the chance to meet Donna and that your are pleased with her too (Not that it's a competition or anything.) Anyway, you will continue to be in the middle of our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Michael & Donna
We also are glad for the good news about major improvements, and thank God for answers to the prayers of his people. Not only we, but some friends and family have been praying: storming the gates of heaven on Helen's behalf.
ReplyDeleteGus and Adri (Rachel's in-laws)

ReplyDeleteHey Gramma! Good for you with all the work you are doing on your own. And a chili dog to boot! How do you rate? I can't even get chili here. Oh well. Looking forward to seeing you next week. We love you bunches and give Pop Jim a great big hug and kiss from me. Tell him to keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteIt is so encouraging to hear about all your progress. You are so strong and will be kicking up your heals in no time. Look out Jim, you will have trouble keeping up with her once she is home. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers always. We love you, Joel and Julie
