Updates on Mom

Since I am feeling a bit helpless at this point (as most of you do as well) I decided to start this blog to update everyone on Mom's health and hospital stay.

It appears that Mom has Lyme Disease (tests results confirming that are expected today).  For information On Lyme Disease - I have posted a few websites with information:
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyme_disease and http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/lyme/ and http://www.lymeinfo.net/pain.html

Debbie sent this email to us yesterday:

Hi Everyone,
Mom called me at 8 this morning to say she was on the floor and couldn't get up. Said it felt like her leg was paralyzed. We rushed over there and she had gotten into her chair by then. Jim was at work. She could not walk unassisted at all without falling. Cindy got ahold of her doctor in Lexington and he said get her to the Good Sam hospital there and he would get her admitted. Dan and I drove her there and Jim met us shortly after we got there. They did some more blood work as well as a lumbar puncture and were working on admitting her when we left. THey gave her some anti nausea med and more pain meds. The results of the Lyme test should be in tomorrow and meanwhile I guess they are ruling out everything possible. A neurologist will come in this evening to examine her. I have to say it is very difficult to see mom in such pain and so helpless. Anyway, just letting you know what is new. She was not in a room yet and so I don't have a room number to pass on to you. But it is the Good Samaritan Hospital on Maxwell in Lexington.
Love,
Deb

  2. Latest update is the spinal tap came back clear. Infectious Diseases examined her earlier today and the neurologist is supposed to be in later today. She is in extreme pain and receiving morphine. They are giving her antibiotics for Lyme disease through IV. Lyme test has not come back yet. She can not even roll over by herself as she is so weak. It is difficult for her to hold the phone to talk also. Continue to pray for her.
    Love,
    Deb

  3. Just talked with Jim on the phone and they were taking mom down for a chest xray and she could not een get into the wheelchair so they took her down on a gurney bed. She is pretty incoherent at this point and it seems as though her symptoms are worse. I spoke with her Dr. about 2 hours ago and he said all the tests that they tested for came back negative and that her lier function was good, a little low on potassium but he adjusted that in her IV so he is just as puzzled as we are, he tested for Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease and a few other things that he is still waiting on the results of. So we just need to continue to pray for both her and Jim as it is hard on him also as he is not use to seeing her like this and is feeling ery helpless I am sure. Well thats it for now!

  4. I tried to post last night but my computer locked and wouldn't add the comment. We are praying for Gramma and hope for a speedy recovery. We also pray her suffering not be so overwhelming. May Pop Jim have strength and perhaps this be a time to witness to him about the mercy of God and his healing grace.

I read a short devotion last night that seemed to fit well. God doesn't allow us to suffer to make us question his goodness, but he allows it to help us remember how much we really need him.

I wish I was there to help comfort all. Love to you all and stay strong.

  5. Good Morning all, I just talked to mom and she is saying that she is worse this morning again, she cannot talk very well and is pretty incoherant (sp) Debbie is on her way to Lexington now and will hopefully get some answers today. I called her Nurse last night and informed her that they need to call either Debbie or I or Jim if the Drs are coming in because they are talking to mom and then mom does not remember what they said. I am hopeful that we will have the test results back today for the Lyme disease and the Rocky Mountain spotted fever. She said that the pain is unbearable and they have her on a Morphine drip but she says that it is not helping much with the pain. Debbie will call me when she knows something and I will post it.

  11. Dearest Nieces & nephews, We are so saddened by the news of your mom's illness. She has always been so healthy. Thanks Jeanne for starting this blog.I posted a message a few days ago, but obviously did something wrong (or illegal) because it's not here.
Give your mom our love and let her know how much we love her. I'll get a card off to her today. We are praying for her.
    Love,
    Aunt Bev & Uncle Mits
